2013 Pulitzer Prize winning drama from novelist and screenwriter Ayad Akhtar makes its Broadway debut at the Lyceum Theatre. The one act play is centered around a dinner party with four participants from very different backgrounds. When the dinner conversation turns to religion and politics persistent biases and stereotypes are revealed to exist despite the participants seemingly progressive outlooks.
In the play, a successful lawyer, Amir Kapoor an American born Muslim and his wife, Emily, an artist who uses Islamic themes in her work, host Jory a work colleague who is married to Isaac, Emily’s Jewish art dealer. The four represent a variety of backgrounds and faiths - a secular muslim, An African-American, a Jew and a WASP. Akhtar deftly uses these characters to explore Islamic and Jewish tradition, 9/11, and racial profiling. A thought provoking piece, and remarkably relevant to the issues of today.
The play is directed by Kimberly Senior and stars Hari Dhillon, Gretchen Mol, Karen Pittman and Josh Radnor.
