Kyra Hollis, an East London school teacher, once lived with the family of Tom Sergeant a successful restaurateur. Forced to leave after her affair with Tom was discovered Kyra thought she left the family behind. However, of the course of one evening she is visited first, in a short prologue, by Edward, Tom’s son, who expresses pain and anger over her abrupt departure and exit from his life. Shortly thereafter, Tom, appears, and though unimpressed with her less than glamorous life. through the course of the evening the pair hash out their different views on social and political issues, arguments about capitalism, inequality, and social policy are they only impediments to a powerful chemistry that remains between the two lovers.
Written by British playwright David Hare, Skylight, won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play in 1996, received Tony Award for Best Play in 1997. This production comes direct from sold-out performances at London’s Wyndham’s Theatre, and stars Oscar Nominee Carey Mulligan and Golden Globe winner Bill Nighy, and is directed by 3 time Oscar Nominee Stephen Daldry.
