Soul Doctor tells the exhilarating tale of Shlomo Carlebach, the 60s era “Rock Star Rabbi” and his unlikely friendship with Nina Simone. Carlebach escaped from Nazi Germany and landed in New York, where he befriended the legendary jazz singer Nina Simone. Inspired by his new friendship Carlebach created his own new sound that fused his Jewish roots with American popular music. He shot to fame performing with the acts such as Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane. However, he struggled to reconcile his traditional beliefs with the free wheeling mores of the 60s.
