1.6 Miles Chelsea

In the heart of Chelsea, overlooking the Hudson River waterfront with great views of Little Island NYC, City Winery’s Barrel Room Restaurant & Wine Bar is a welcoming space to relax and unwind during lunch or dinner. The restaurant features a wood-fired pizza bar and a full-service craft coffee and espresso bar. The menu is wine-inspired, globally-influenced, and locally-sourced, perfect for pairing with City Winery’s own vintages, extensive wine offerings, craft beer and cocktails and more. As Manhattan's only fully-operational winery, the menu features over a dozen tap wine options, preserved in stainless steel kegs in a temperature-controlled environment for optimum freshness with every glass. The tap system, developed by City Winery’s Master Winemaker David Lecomte, has been recognized for its “green” approach with no need for bottling, corks or labels; and therefore, minimal impact on the environment.

Recreating the streets of the lower reaches of Hell's Kitchen, Michelin starred Carbone brings authentic Italian-American cuisine with delicious daily specials to Manhattan. Created by the folks behind the beloved Torrisi Italian Specialties brand, the restaurant recalls 50s-era Italian joints with a menu of familiar favorites and—no joke—floor tiles based on a scene from The Godfather. With a staff seem culled from central casting, along with the generous portions, guests may feel as though they actually are in the movie.

But the most extraordinary offerings are the more than two dozen types of pastries, ranging from crème brûlée to mousse noisette, eclairs, mini-patisserie, fruit tarts, and numerous others. Large cakes include the heavenly triple chocolate mousse and exquisite Bergamotier. The owners hail from the city of Nancy, and they clearly pay attention to all the details, including their top-quality espresso machine and hand-painted wall murals and framed artwork. You'll find a great value and top quality assured here, and the multinational staff is happy to describe the ingredients in the various confections and let you feel free to linger while enjoying your meal. A second location with table service opened in Midtown West in 2008.

Sushi Seki - Chelsea

Sushi Bars

1.0 Miles

Sushi Seki is the creation of Chef Seki Shi who hails from Tokyo where he once worked at the famed Tsukiji Market; one of the biggest fish markets in the world. In New York City he worked for several years with one of the city’s most inventive sushi masters, “Gari” Masatoshi, at Sushi of Gari, where he helped pioneer a more modern and innovative style of sushi – most notably topping nigiri with ingredients that would be unorthodox in his native Japan. Examples include his ode to New York-style bagel and lox where he tops fresh salmon sushi with charred tomato and seasons it with minced white onion toast. Another example is his toro tartare mixed with pickled daikon.

The dining area offer customers both intimacy with wrap-around banquettes as well as individual seating at its well-apportioned floor-to-ceiling windows. The expanded menu pays tribute to the south of France, offering healthy choices such as a Mediterranean salad, Salade Nicoise, Smoked Salmon with Shaved Fennel, and diverse Crostini. With one of the largest showcases for pastries and cakes in New York City, the second La Bergamote location maintains the highest quality, featuring all its fresh-daily offerings made with wholesome ingredients carefully sourced from New York’s top purveyors. Its coffee drinks remain below the average prices found at New York cafés and Starbucks, and despite rising costs for sugar, milk, eggs, prices remain the same as at the original location.

Meadowsweet

Mediterranean

3.4 Miles

Polo Dobkin earns another Michelin Star to go with the one earned at the Dressler. With Meadowsweet, which he opened with his wife, Stephanie they have created a a menu that is contemporary American with a Mediterranean current. With fresh seasonal ingredients he lets speak for themselves, rather than through elaborate presentation or fanciful culinary jujitsu. Taking over the old Dressler space, the couple created a light, open feel, that has a friendly family vibe. A hanging herb garden provides flavors for a cocktail menu that matches the kitchen in tone and taste. An excellent wine list and a revolving selection of craft beer round out a well curated beverage list.

Natsumi

Japanese

0.4 Miles Theater District

Natsumi breaks new ground with their innovative modern Japanese cuisine. Barbara Matsamura and Chef Haru Konagaya team up here to create a strikingly new destination—two separate experiences in two adjacent sites: an elegant restaurant and a trendy Tokyo-chic bar/lounge. The word Natsumi, defined as "the reflection of the beauty of summer," is certainly evoked in this tranquil and colorful setting. In fact, the whole room is infused with a warm golden glow and earth tones. To set the mood, you'll certainly want to start with one of the distinctive and refreshing drinks or great selection of wines. Fortunately, the wine list is international, with white, red, sparkling wines, and champagne by the glass and bottle. Because Natsumi specializes in modern Japanese cuisine with a touch of Italian ingredients, you'll find a striking array of creative dishes such as sashimi arugula salad, new style yellowtail carpaccio, and a truly innovative lobster green tea ravioli. The creative menu relies on unique preparations with dynamic flavors. The restaurant is divided into distinct dining areas, a cozy space with intimate booths, a sushi bar where diners can watch the chefs compose, and in the front, the windows open to the street. Natsumi is a continuation of owner Matsumura's successful career as a restaurateur, which has seen her open fifteen thriving restaurants in the tri-state area, including Ms. Matsumura and Chef Haru's expansive chain of Japanese restaurants and sushi bars, aptly titled Haru. While he may lend his name to other ventures, Natsumi consumes the large portion of Haru's personal attention, where he adds unparalleled flair and zeal to the creation of the city's most delectable dishes.

Tia Pol

Spanish

1.1 Miles Chelsea

A great tapas bar and restaurant on the fringe of Chelsea's gallery district, Tia Pol established itself immediately as an authentic purveyor of authentic Spanish cuisine and keeps going strong. Small plates of seafood, cheese, meats, potatoes, croquetas, and other hot & cold specialties are augmented by a great wine and beer list. Definitely try the delightful patatas bravas, the lamb skewers, the octopus, the head-on shrimp, and perhaps a cheese plate or one of the specials. While the restaurant is quite small, the service is very attentive and the atmosphere is pleasant. Indeed, in a dozen dining experiences over the course of a year, we never had a single negative; everything was always excellent and served with flair. Dining at the bar is also possible, and the eclectic mix of people makes it a fun experience. Although we initially feared that once all the major media outlets discovered Tia Pol it would become more difficult to score a table, it nevertheless underscores this restaurant's tremendous success. Hint: arrive early or quite late. Brunch is also a pleasant and relaxed affair here, especially in summer and early autumn when the restaurant's floor-to-ceiling glass doors are kept wide-open.
